Posted by brandstad in Sep, 2017
We have looked in previous blogs about tips on how to increase your income. Hopefully, you have read that and tried out some of them. In this 5 minute blog I will talk specifically about how to make money on the side as a freelancer. Please message me or leave a comment to let me know if you found it useful and practical.

Planning – The first thing to do if you want to be successful at this is to plan it. Think about what you are good and what you love doing in your spare time. If you don’t then you won’t be able to commit to the projects you get and your work quality will be inconsistent. Draw up a list of potential jobs you could do or skills you have which can help people solve their problems. For instance Project Management skills, musical instrument, etc.
-
Think of solutions – remember people pay for solutions not your skills. They engage you because they think your skills will solve their problems.
-
Get your evidence – to be able to convince someone to pay you to do the freelance work you need to have some sort of evidence or testimonial of the work you have done in the past. Begin to collate such information. Which similar projects have you successfully done in the past that you can point the prospective client to? Have a portfolio and samples of your work ready to showcase to potential clients.
-
Find your client – before spending lots of money on marketing materials make sure that what you have to offer is what people want to buy and you know who and where these people are. Who are these people? What do they want? What are their hopes and what are their problems? Where are they and how can you reach them economically? How old are they? What do they do? How big is their company?

Reach out to them boldly and directly – find them on social media and send them an email, connect with them, follow them and let them know you are here and what you have to offer.
